  1. A toilet is a place where waste products from
  2. the body are excreted. Simple latrines, with 
  3. sewers to carry away waste. The valve cistern,
  4. with a base that could be opened or closed,
  5. was invented by John Harington, godson of 
  6. Queen Elizabeth I. In 1775 the U-bend was
  7. designed to keep smells away. This design was
  8. then improved in 1778. The present style of
  9. toilet dates from about 1889.
  10. Other names commonly used for toilet are:
  11. Dunny, John, Loo and Bog.
